I agree that the war on drugs is a total waste of money and has been a total failure. If all drugs were legalized for adult consumption and taxed, with of course laws against driving cars under the influence etc., at least we would probably never have to worry about balancing the budget again.
Personally, I suspect there are too many people in high places benefiting from the inflow of illegal drugs and the so-called war allows them to continue to benefit.
