Micron had cross-licensing agreements with Intel and was treading a fairly thin line since Intel IP applied to anything that interfaced with Intel microprocessors. Most likely Intel had access to the design of Micron's chipset from the get go, just as Micron used a great deal of Intel's IP to design the Micron chipset for PII.

Whatever, Intel was able to suppress the innovative Micron chipset with its 64 bit / 66 MHZ PCI bus. Fortunately, Intel is no longer able to retard industry progress by forcing the market to limit itself to Intel's sometimes unfortunate designs (rambus comes to mind...)
