ZC - Even I wouldn't have thought that Q will lower guidance for 2001. Surely there is enough in the pipline to produce a steady if not spectacular 2001?

NOK can't get a big increase in sales because its main European markets are saturated and producing the same thing in a different cover is wearing thin. Even NOK needs something new and Q is the only one that has it working.

Best regards,

L

Chuck, it's true that the move to 3G is being delayed by GSM/TDMA proponents who would rather not spend money to upgrade at a time they are buying more spectrum. It's also true that demand for CDMA is turning out differently from what one would have assumed a year ago, before China temporarily rejected further expansion of CDMA. But there are also positives that weren't known a year ago: The new breed of chips with GPS capabilities is just one example. The new Internet capable handsets from Samsung and others are also encouraging users to switch from poorer performing systems to those using CDMA. As long as there is competition in a given market, such as in the U.S., the companies with the lowest prices and/or best phone features will attract more customers. The competing GSM and TDMA systems already are at a cost disadvantage in terms of efficiency of spectrum use and Internet access speed. In foreign countries, I am very impressed with the movement toward Wireless Local Loops in India. This is the application that QUALCOMM has always recarded as sort of the killer app.

Could near term earnings disappointments (e.g., less than a 30 percent increase in operating earnings plus earnings from licensing and royalties) occur? Probably, but as long as the major markets remain open to competition, I would rather be in this stock for the long haul.

Workstyle(TM) Server Becomes The First Enterprise-Based Packaged Application To Achieve RSA SecurID Ready Certification, Enhancing Its Ability To Provide Secure Wireless Access To Key Corporate Data

Wireless Knowledge, Inc., a Microsoft Corp. MSFT and QUALCOMM Inc. QCOM company, Monday announced it has joined the RSA Secured(TM) Strategic Partner Program to support interoperability between its Workstyle Server software and RSA SecurID authentication technology.

By joining forces with RSA Security, Wireless Knowledge enhances the industry-leading security capabilities of Workstyle, which provides mobile executives with real-time, wireless access to their organization's existing messaging platform.

As part of the program, Workstyle has been awarded "RSA SecurID Ready" certification, signaling its compatibility with RSA Security's authentication technology. The RSA Secured certification lets organizations know that Workstyle is compatible with RSA Security's products and technologies.

"We are pleased to welcome Wireless Knowledge to the RSA Secured Partner Program," said Robert Pritchard, director of strategic partner development at RSA Security. "Workstyle is the first packaged m-business application to support our industry-leading wireless authentication standard and creates an ideal fit for Wireless Knowledge's customers who need secure, wireless access to critical business information."

RSA SecurID authentication software provides a strong two-factor authentication solution for enterprises requiring enhanced authentication security for their mobile employees accessing Workstyle. RSA SecurID software requires the use of both the employee's static password and a dynamically changing code generated by an RSA authenticator that is carried by the user.

RSA SecurID two-factor authentication software greatly minimizes the risk that mobile employees' authentication credentials will be compromised, thus preventing exposure of corporate data to unauthorized individuals. Workstyle provides the necessary user interface and backend connections to the RSA ACE/Server, which performs the user authentication.

"Joining the RSA Secured Partner Program affirms our commitment to bringing the industry's most advanced security technologies to our enterprise customers," said Ken Whitaker, vice president of product development for Wireless Knowledge. "As the first company in our category to earn RSA SecurID Ready certification, Wireless Knowledge has further established itself at the leading edge of the wireless data market."

Workstyle Server is an enterprise-grade packaged application that enables mobile workers to access critical information residing on the corporate network. Because it resides behind the firewall, Workstyle Server delivers secure, real-time wireless access to Microsoft Exchange- and Lotus Domino-based corporate email, calendar, company public address books and personal address books. Mobile employees can access this data through any number of wireless Internet devices - including mobile phones and PDAs (e.g., Palm and Pocket PC) worldwide, as well as landline PCs such as laptops and kiosks.

In addition to RSA SecurID software support, the product's security features include true end-to-end encryption for wireless devices and gateways that natively support Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS), two of the most common standards today.

Workstyle uses highly encrypted networking protocols to communicate wirelessly with remote employees, ensuring secure access - even if a device is lost, stolen or broken.
