with that new win2k box you might want to check the dma setting in the ide channel. we had a good discussion about it here not long ago, you can follow the thread from ( #reply-15069148 ).

here's a bit from langa that provides the clickstream for ya...

"If, like me, you're OS is Win2000, then you'll need to open
Computer Management (right click My computer and choose
manage), then select Device Manager. Expand the IDE
ATA/ATAPI controllers list. For each IDE channel right
click and choose properties, then select Advanced Settings.
Select "DMA if available" from the Transfer Mode combo."


i reset mine to dma. was on pio only. #reply-15070177

it'll be interesting to see how a new os is set as default.
