As for the dog funeral, I personally think you're going a little overboard.
Do you think dogs have a soul?

Since funerals are for the living and not the dead, sure why not have a funeral for the dog? And yeah, if people have souls, then so do dogs. Really, they've got pretty much identical hardware, so there's no reason they wouldn't.
