OpenBSD looks very interesting. Thanks for the links. The author of the first article makes the same point I've been making about fixed IPs:

"I've heard from a number of people who over
the past few years have gotten broadband
connections at home and within very short order
had their home network port-scanned by
outsiders.

If you think your network -- home or office, tiny or
vastly corporate -- doesn't need real security
these days, you're living in denial."

It's going to take me awhile to assimilate OpenBSD. One thing I love about my wonderful freebie firewall Zonealarm is the amazing stealth that it produces. I have tried various security testers on it and none of them have ever been able to detect ANY presence of my computer on the net! So this would be my goal for a server/router network setup.

Cheeky Dude,

I was going to go the OpenBSD route for a firewall, got the software, even bought an OpenBsd firewall book. But I got stuck when I found out that my cable service requires
WINS name resolution ( WINS = Windows naming service ) be enabled. I couldn't find out if OpenBSD had a way to support WINS so I shelved the project.

Do you have any ideas about WINS support in OpenBSD?

Cheeks....do you or anyone know the trick to get Win98 to remember the windows and programs you have open when you shut down so that the next time you start up those same windows (ie, IE broswers and url addresses) automatically load when you start up. I know my old old win95 pc did this and damn I miss that neat feature. I'm not talking the StartUP folder here....this is a dynamic thing where it remembers each time what IE browsers you have open, OE, etc etc..

...going to lurk at some WinTips sites
members.aol.com

..can't find this trick...still lurking..
