TI To Open 3G Wireless Center In India
by K.C. Krishnadas
[ January 19, 2001 ]

Texas Instruments (India) is setting up a 3G Wireless Center in Bangalore, its first in India and its third worldwide.
The center will focus on DSP software for infrastructure and applications as well as on hardware applications for TI's integrated DSP platform for third-generation wireless (3G). Texas Instruments Inc. (stock: TXN) will also "develop strategic partnerships with key players who can develop and deploy solutions" optimized for its Open Multimedia Applications Platform, said Biswadip Mitra, newly appointed managing director of TI in India.

The 3G center this year will employ 50 engineers, many of whom will transfer from existing TI (India) facilities. The company operates two other 3G wireless centers -- at its Dallas headquarters and in Nice, France.

One of the first products to roll out of the center in Bangalore will be a 0.13-micron chip targeted for telecommunications OEMs in Europe that integrates a microcontroller, DSP, and application-specific IC. The device is expected to ship in the second quarter.

TI India plans eventually to integrate SRAM, flash, analog baseband, and small-signal RF onto a single-chip device.

Pre schoolers say, "stay with QCOM."
No other reasonable alternatives.
Son #1 has had it since '96.
Son #1 told son #2 to stick with the winner.

Sons and Dad are outta here...
More fun outside exploring the chaparral.
Good luck to you.
