It can pay to be aware of the clearly erroneous trade policies of the various ECNs in case of such misadventures. Most ECNs have detailed rules specifiying the percentage threshold relative to stock price beyond which a trade will be broken on request. Such requests usually have to be filed within 30 minutes of execution.

Some of the ecn's (specifically, i am familiar with redi) have "obviously erroneous" policies. If you really screw up and and execute 10% or more away from the market, they will break the trade for you. This can only happen on redi during pre and post market, but can definitely happen any time on island. I'm not sure what, if any, obvious error policy they have.
