I think what Art means is that last year at this time most people expected Qualcomm to get some
large scale installation of CDMA networks. A couple months later this was called into question, and you
know the rest of the story...

<< What is it that we assumed a year ago?? >>

I won't speak for others, but I will tell you what I personally assumed at the beginning of 2000:

* That CDMA would continue to be the fastest growing technology in the world.

* That CDMA would achieve the annual growth forecast by CDG - 50M new subs and 100% annual growth.

* That the IS-2000A standard for cdma2000 submitted to the ITU for May approval would feature data rates higher than 153 kbps and in fact would meet or exceed the ITU IMT-2000 requirements for all 3 environments (fixed, mobile, pedestrian).

* That ALL existing cdmaOne operators would choose cdma2000 for IMT-2000 3G spectrum technology.

* That Anatel would choose 1900 MHz for new 2G spectrum auctions rather than 1800 GHz.

* That QUALCOMM would get a lot of mileage out of their exhibit at the GSM World Congress, and CDG would benefit from their appearance there.

* That CDG would be accepted in 3GPP as a Market Representation Partner.

* That potentially we would see a carrier or carriers using competitive technology contract for a CDMA "overlay".

This wasn't my "wish list". These were pretty solid assumptions. A few of them I would have bet the ranch on.
