GENEVA (CBS.MW) - STMicroelectronics could overtake Motorola as the world's sixth-largest chipmaker, according to a published report.
ST is expected to report a jump in sales of 55 percent last year, more than doubling the 21 percent growth by Motorola's semiconductor unit, Bloomberg reported Sunday. The global chip market grew at a rate of 31 percent last year.
Europe's biggest chipmaker is expected to report 2000 sales of $7.8 billion on Thursday, according to the average estimate of five analysts polled by Bloomberg.
