Hi Grace Z. Zaccardi; The vast majority of the graphics card makers went out of business long enough ago that their names are now pretty much forgotten. As far as Matrox goes, they're privately held, aren't they? Though Intergraph is not primarily a graphics card maker, their long term stock chart is exactly what I was referring to.

Their stock is considerably cheaper now than it was in 1987:

STB is worse, they got bought by 3dfx, which stock has recently been as low as 10 cents, down from the high $30s:

Of the three companies you listed, one is private, and the other two have lousy long term stock charts, and these are representatives of the winners. The losers fell off the chart completely.

A quick search of the internet drummed up the following graphics cards manufacturers in the Orcad list for high resolution. The vast majority of these companies are now gone. Here are the As, Bs, and Cs:

Actix
Advanced Integration Research
Ahead Systems
AllStar Microsystems
American Megatrends (still in business, but not graphics)
Appian Technology
Applied Data Systems
Artist
AST (what happened to them?)
ATI
AVM Technology
AvTech Development, Inc.
Boca Research
Cardinal
Chips & Technologies (remember them?)
Chroma ATE, Inc.
Cirrus
Citizen
Communication Inter-Globe
Compaq (still in business, but not really in graphics cards)
CornerStone
CSS Laboratories
...

pcb.cadence.com

In addition to the ABCs listed above, in 1986 I had a contract with Conographics, and they aren't even on the above list. Of course some of the names are duplicates, or divisions of larger companies. But the fact is that the vast majority of these companies aren't around anymore.
