Carolyn, it seems that my main point was overlooked or misunderstood. While reading this thread today, I found posters of seemingly good reputation making remarkable statements about another person who posts on SI. I met that person once. Those statements were at such variance to my experience that I wanted to know if any of those apparent descriptions were based on fact. I am not a big fan of character assassination or ridicule as a debate tool. It is dangerous to assume that the supposed anonymity of SI protects one from discovery, or libel. Some of the people posting here know the real names of other posters but do not know those posters well enough to not be influenced by maliciously inaccurate characterizations.
