Anyone can stop, some are more determined than others. I guess you have to have that spark within to make it. Junkies that don't stop know its a slow suicide, I can't see getting too emotional over it. That may sound harsh, but I've had a few friends die in some not so nice ways from drugs or drug related antics. After awhile the part of you that feels compassion just gets fed up.

I wasn't a counselor that long. I was enthusiastic for awhile, but I burned out on it rather quickly. In my last week, a piece of advice I gave to a client that had come to my office was "suffer, you bastard." That did not go over well with the guy who owned the treatment center. <G>
