It's not so much >>spending more than we collect.<< It's the ability (of present and future generations) to carry the cost (ie to serve the national debt) that is questionable. Look at Japan: a nation of aging hardworkers, who let the government have their own pension moneys to the amount of 130% of GNP. At zero interest rate.
