I think such an absolute one-front agenda is absent. I'm a liberal by some standards but conservative by others. Conservative means to act in cautious manner - a conservative design is one that errs on the side of caution. Our environmental management has not been conservative in this sense. Who can argue that? But in practice political conservative frequently means reactionary (desiring to going back to some previous time where things were believed to be "better").

Invariably such alleged utopian times are where a small segment of society was socially isolated from the larger whole. In such isolation, people can embrace all sorts of things and, if the community is homogeneous enough, they can perceive it as entirely acceptable to everyone they know. It is not a big leap of faith to them that everyone beyond this circle should embrace it.

I've been it 38 of the 50 states. I've lived in every corner and in the center, in Tennessee. I've got a pretty good idea of how much variability there is in this country and it is a lot. Many people who'd you'd think would be judgmental aren't and many people who should know better (because they are educated) are.

This is one opinion of Democrats--a political arm of Liberalism. I am neither all liberal nor all Conservative. The idea that half the population are morally superior to the other half is reprehensible to me. Good ideas come from a lot of directions, and there is always learning in a sincere sharing of opinions.

Many Conservatives probably agree with some of these values in a large measure. The fact that POWER can only go to one at a time, however, is what ensures irrational extremism and polarization. Thats one idea they both agree on: POWER.

I was just looking for a starting point to have a meaningful debate on liberal beliefs

To do this you have to start by defining the term "liberal", a very difficult thing to do. For example: I don't think of myself as a liberal. Many conservatives on SI do think of me as a liberal. So, am I a liberal?

Even among those who do describe themselves as liberals, you will find sufficient variation of opinion to make the notion of "liberal beliefs" fairly irrelevant.

It is usually possible to define one belief as more liberal than another, or more conservative than another, but what is the dividing line between liberal and moderate, or liberal and radical?

It depends on who you ask.

I'm not qualified to speak on "liberal beliefs". I'm only qualified to speak on my beliefs, which may or may not be liberal, depending on who you ask.

My personal opinion is that each of us stands up for our own beliefs, and we forget about trying to classify them, we will be much more likely to have an intelligent discussion.

Here's the way the Pew Research folks categorize the electorate. You might find that a useful starting point.
