OT: The China-Taiwan-US triangle is highly complex and a whole thread could easily be dedicated to it. I tend to agree with China that we would park a carrier at each end of the Straits, but would NOT intervene militarily unless the island were invaded. Taiwan has a pretty good ability to defend itself, with US weapons and training, and could sink the entire Chinese navy in a matter of days.

The US will be placed in a no-win situation if China goes farther than saber rattling with Taiwan. It probably will happen eventually but fortunately the chinese are a very patient people. Hopefully they will get together amicably.

OT/Gertz is an excellent investigative reporter on defense & intelligence.

Have seen him interviewed several times and occasionally read his stuff.

With China's need to import larger quantities of crude oil added to demand swings from other Asian countries, it's worth keeping an eye on possible flashpoints in that region.
