PB, Emulex does not and will not make FC switches imo.

You're right about Emulex: they make FC HBAs, hubs, etc., but no switches.

Yes, when I said EMC hasn't gone there yet (FC switches) I really meant they probably won't either.

Interesting points about Sun and Dell. Both are trying their darndest to get in storage...

Dell warns today but puts on a brave face, saying enterprise, like servers, storage are growing well for them. I take that with a large grain of salt, at least WRT REAL enterprise stuff, like 4-way and greater servers, or medium or big storage with features like full redundancy, disaster recovery, and complete interoperability for other vendors products.

Just getting around to saying that was a great post re your discussion with an EMC sales person.

PB, check this, Dell introduces fourth-generation storage area network (SAN) offering, from Briefing. What were the other three?

13:40 ET Dell Computer (DELL) 24 7/8 -3/4 (-2.9%): -- Update -- Introduces its fourth-generation storage area network (SAN) offering, designed to provide data protection and storage management at a much lower price than many traditional storage vendors.

Edit, the full story:

Anybody know the source of this storage, in other words, do they develop it themselves or productize someone else's storage product?
