to put up an invisible fence I would need like 3 miles of line..ain't gonna happen. I guess I could confine him to a small area. What a drag..this dude was really coming into his own as a herder/protector. He's an amazing dog, but I've heard that once they acquire the TASTE they are no longer safe around the animals. I figured chasing wild deer off my land was a pretty cool deal..never dawned on me he'd want to upgrade to the fancy high-dollar sausage ...

ps--there's a nice industry...farm raised deer for sausage..jeeez

Yes the fence can be turned off buuut you need to know the dog got out. Neighbor has one and their dogs bolted over the fence a few times to come see me when I was at the wood stove. When they went to go home they weren't as excited as they were to come to my place (you know the fruit thing) so they were just poking along. Fence works in reverse also and they became afraid to go home.

Took me several days working with them where Jean would sit in the house and I would call the dogs into the yard with the fence off, and once they were there she would turn it on and I would cross it before they got the idea that leaving is what nailed them.

Good thing too as I don't like Dobermans and these 2 are huge. Scared the bejesus out of me several times when I came out my back door:) Fortunately they liked me a lot since I am almost 1 mile from where they live and they always caught me by surprise.
