Yes, the United States in the 1990s.

I don't really see a trade deficit, per se, as a sign of economic health or otherwise. Japan runs large trade surpluses and you can hardly consider them a healthy economy.

I personally think that the U.S. consumer spent too much during the decade, but given the huge creation of wealth, can you blame them? There is a proud tradition of foreigners buying our assets at the tops of bubbles then selling them back at distressed prices. Could this be happening again?

Where's Lawrence when you need him although he's a Harvard liberal? (Maybe that will flush him out!)

Why do we need a 24 year old with a degree in Biomedical Sciences to teach us economics? <g>
