Eric,

The point wasn't religion in politics. The point was the standard Republican technique of doing one thing and simultaneously claiming to do the opposite. Reagan perfected this technique.

The scary thing is how well it seems to work in American politics.

Kennedy even introduced religion into the race, demanding to know if Romney, a member of the Mormon Church, supported church policies that until 1978 excluded black men from serving as priests. Romney quickly reminded voters how the Democrat's brother had to fend off questions about his Catholicism during his run for the presidency.

"Ted, what was the Catholic Church doing during World War II?"
"Have you written the pope about abortion recently?"


Interesting questions, what were Kennedy's answers?
