This is what AMD Japan said today:

AMD Japan said it will enhance the operating frequency of Athlon step by step. The company plans to release a 1.3GHz chip by the end of March, 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz chips by the end of June and a 1.7GHz chip by the end of December. The chipmaker will also re-enter the operating frequency battle for notebook PC products with Mobile Duron, its new chip for notebook PCs released on Jan. 15. By the end of 2001, users may see a notebook PC model with a chip running at 1GHz, Sakai said.

Andreas - RE: "Very good news! I belive Dirk Meyer is the most capable person for this position. Hopefully he will ensure that chipset support for Clawhammer/Sledgehammer will be there from the start. His new position is IMO also a sign that he's there to stay."

Yeah, its great news! I feel comfortable with Meyer. I bet the engineers like that someone that can think like them is in charge of the processor group.

I just checked and this position is what Larry Hollatz had until he "resigned" at the end of August. It took AMD until today to officially give the job to someone.

I hope Ruiz doesn't have too much influence over Meyer in this position even though Meyer will report to him. I've grown weary of Ruiz. Since he came over it seems as if his mouth has done more action than him. And that's not good if Sanders is grooming him to be the next CEO, not good at all...
