I'm in Charlotte, but we do spend alot of time in the NC and WV mountains due to my wifes obsession with climbing. Don't spend any time in any one town....we are normally at the rock...camping and climbing. Lots of great places in NC, although one of my favorites is in WV....new river gorge. Absolutely beautiful emerald green deep mountain lake.....very little shoreline....all rock and cliffs.....wonderful for climbers and anybody that likes the water. Also, they have some of the best white water rafting anywhere in the US at the new and gauley rivers...absolutely intense if you catch those rivers at the right time...not for the beginner or faint of heart, thats for sure.

hang tight....hope the market is treating you right.
