It marks the first time a high-profile computer executive has indicated that there may be some form of industry consolidation, with companies getting out of the PC business, or aligning or combining with former competitors.

I, for one, am absolutely certain this is a true statement, what a precision piece of reporting. Wow.

With that article CBS.MarketWatch moved to my ignorant list. Compaq has recently announced building super computers, new super computer contracts, new IT contracts with stock exchanges, and picking up the Yahoo contract. Their iPaq commercial PC is BTO and should have low to no inventory. The iPaq hand held device is so hot Compaq can't fill the demand. After that these turkeys talk about Compaq like it is a one trick pony selling consumer PCs. Don't they read the news? "Mr. Warning" (Michael Dell) answers a question during the conference call and all of a sudden the major players are going to kill all the small players off and then buy each other. Scheee, I've never seen another company executive warn so many times and still have a job. Good thing he owns a bunch of stock or the board would have fired him after the second warning. Hmmmm, maybe "Mr. Warning" is interested in selling Dell.
