You could look on the Jessee Jackson affair and the reaction of his supporters and the protest movement as well as a major effort to preserve their sources of funding.

From what I understand, taxpayer dollars payed off Jackson's Mistress.

Of course, we would never be able to investigate this since it would be
"meanspirited" of the vengeful Republicans to ask if taxpayer dollars
are funding the lifestyles of the rich and illegitamit.
