QuesCom unveils its first generation of SmartIAD®s enabling the VoIP Evolution
As part of its strategy for VoIP Evolution, QuesCom announces today the immediate availability
and first customer shipment of the QuesCom 500 and QuesCom 600 SmartIAD®s.

Sophia Antipolis, October 17th, 2000 - QuesCom, a European manufacturer of innovative solutions
based on True Convergence Solutions for Voice and Data, announces today the availability of their
new modular SmartIAD®s servers for VoIP Networking, the QuesCom 500 and the QuesCom 600.
The QuesCom SmartIAD® is a powerful Open Communication system with a large range of features
and benefits for both the Enterprise and the Service Providers.
It allows enterprise networks to consolidate data and telecommunications network traffic for
cost-effective transmission over TCP/IP networks. The QuesCom SmartIAD®'s system meets the
growing need to integrate both data and voice traffic over IP networks.
It also enables Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to offer extremely competitive cost-effective solutions
for long distance voice communications.

"Corporations today typically operate two communication networks: one for voice and another for
data. Voice-over-IP offers substantial cost savings to companies that are already operating TCP/IP
networks by routing traditional Public Switching Telephone Network (PSTN) phone calls via their
existing IP data network. Based on their present intranets, companies can easily implement voice
services, and gradually migrate to the use of total IP-based communications networks. This greatly
simplifies network administration and provides further cost savings as maintenance expenses are
dramatically reduced.
With Voice-over-IP, Internet service providers and newly emerging carriers in Europe are now able to
offer their customers voice services, while taking advantage of the existing infrastructure." says
Philippe Oros, President of QuesCom

QuesCom SmartIAD®s are available with various capacities and in various configurations, to suit the
needs of different applications. According to specific requirements, they may be situated at the edge
of the network, at branches and at the central sites of customers and providers.

With True Convergence we enable the revolution in Telecommunications: True Convergence by
QuesCom is the combination of Convergence for Voice and Data, and the Integration of existing
Voice systems and new VoIP systems and services.

As True Convergence servers, the QuesCom 500 and 600 SmartIAD®s are situated at the edge of
today's two major networking infrastructures, the Public Switched Telephone Network and the Packet
Based carrier infrastructure. They provide the link between what is in existence today and the
Giga/Tera bit backbones of the future.

The QuesCom Servers receive input in the form of Data and Voice Streams. Data is delivered by the
local Data infrastructure, either via a router or by taking IP packets directly from a LAN, using our
internal Routing Features. Voice is taken from the Local PBX, either in Digital/ISDN or Analogue
format, or from attached VoIP systems and devices.

Based on the rules set in Qware, our Call Server and Management Software, we are able to deliver
quality voice traffic over either the PSTN or the Packet Based Infrastructure, and at the same time
deliver data services to the Customer Site. This creates a seamless Voice & Data Infrastructure.
From the PBX sites it looks just like the PSTN, even if there is a VoIP device on the other end, from
the VoIP side it appears to be one congruent VoIP network.
