flats, there have been some plants down that are coming back up here, but the story seems to vary day to day as to how much is actually off line. Other factors like transmission bottlenecks and power surges also play a role in forcing regional problems within the state.

I read yesterday that 5 of the 9 new plants currently approved are under construction, and some will be ready by the end of the year.

As for the reaction to those December bills that I had expected, here's a starter:

sfgate.com

One of them paid $500 for the month, 'cause they just HAD to use those xmas lights and puppy warmer lamps. This was with an electricity price cap too !

I find that wearing a sweater works pretty well to lower my bill, and anybody with a 4,900 sq. ft. home like the one in that article ought to be paying a lot for their energy hogging ways anyway.......Can you imagine 6 billion people trying to live that profligately ?

The real problems may come this summer, though -- 105 degrees without cooling for the frail is worse than 40 degrees at night with blankets in the winter.
