Paying off the National debt will do only one thing, it takes the largest creditor in the market USA out leaving monies available to be lent only for lets say private debt. It also reduces the Public DOLLAR cost of interest expense and since the largest lender is out of the market it lowers the Private cost of borrowed money (all other things being equal). However, for those who dont have any debt such as me it doesnt do squat. You are saying let the private sector BORROW ITSELF to success whereas I am saying give the people their money back and let them SPEND THEMSELVES to success. Tax cut works faster, especially if retroactive, pay down debt has obvious good long term implications. Being a MODERATE I say LETS DO BOTH. haha. JDN
