Tony, <<<If "all that other stuff" besides IA ever gets profitable, Barrett would look great.>>>

Craig Barrett is the right man at the right time for Intel. Intel has been going down cyberspace at break neck speed largely through good fortune ("good fortune" combined with a lot of hard work. It is much easier to find talented people and get them to work hard than it it to find good luck - and Intel had a lot of good luck).

Craig Barrett has a bit of consolidation to do and IA is a big engineering project that is right up his alley. It has to work, or there is no Intel as we know it. I am sure he will succeed in this. As for "other stuff" it is a good thing Intel management is very conservative, fiscally responsible, and not tremendous risk takers.

There is no chance that "other stuff" will succeed. But, also, I don't think it's going to kill us.

I just hope Craig Barrett is a big enough person to recognise his limitations.
