NORFOLK, Va. -- Norfolk Southern Corp. slashed its quarterly dividend and announced a further reduction of its work force as part of a restructuring aimed at reducing costs and improving its financial performance.

Norfolk Southern Cites Freight Decline in Issuing Quarterly Profit Warning (Dec. 20, 2000)

The railroad said it will cut its work force by 1,000 to 2,000 employees, or as much as 6%, over the next 12 months. The new cuts are in addition to voluntary retirement and furlough programs offered during 2000. The company now employs 33,000 workers, said spokeswoman Susan Terpay<<

Danny, if amzn could get its loyal followers to pay an annual fee like costco does. I'd buy it in a heart beat.

You are so correct. Costco is quite an operation and I buy from them sometimes on-line. I am not a member so I pay more. The problem is there is no local Costco store.

PS Amazon is never going to be able to command a fee to just shop there. They do not even have pricing power without a fee.
