S African analysts guardedly upbeat after UK gold auction
Johannesburg--Jan. 23--South African analysts have expressed cautious optimism at the results of the 10th auction of 25 tons of gold by the Bank of England Tuesday, noting that the subscription rate of 4.8 times was one of the highest levels of demand seen since the start of the auctions in mid-1999. They added that news of a big short position reported by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) could spark further short-covering.
