CDG has cleaned up that act (capacity increases of 8 to 10 times that of an AMPS analog system):

GSM communitty seems to accept 3.5 X GSM (and obviously that varies from 2X to 5X depending on all the variables of network configuration) for IS95-A/B and theretically (since they aren't commercially deployed) 7x GSM/GPRS for 1xRTT (or W-CDMA) now so far as I can see.

That is not insignificant (theoretically <g>).
