No, Scumbria. When you list the most controversial ideas of the new administration you wont find any that are likly to unite republicans and democrats. The whole "uniter not a divider" slogan is mostly just a slogan used in a political campagin IMO, but to the extent it does have real meaning it is about working where together where there is agreement (if you can find these areas), and about projecting a more civil tone instead of viciously attacking political opponents. In Texas Bush was a uniter, but it will probably be difficult in Washington, since federal politics are more partisan. Bush could ofcourse unite with democrats by dropping all conservative ideas but thats not what he meant by being a uniter and if that was what he planned all along there was really no reason for him to have run for president.

"simultaneously blame the Democrats for the discord over his proposals."

Come on Scumbria, you knew this was coming. Look at the campaign, he made all those claims about being civil, but he still consistently branded Gore as a liar every chance he got, while lying through his teeth every time he opened his mouth. If that is civility...

But it was a smart move by whomever came up with that little scheme. Now, whenever his opponents try to catch him in a lie, he will just point to their lack of civility and the unfairness of it all.
