There was an interesting editorial out of a weekly paper (The Star, Dorris, Ca.- Ed)stating the nation was not split conservative vs. liberal but more urban vs. rural. Gore carried 677 counties - Bush carried 2,434. Gore carried 580,000 square miles - Bush carried 2,427,000 square miles. Most all of Gore's support came from the large urban areas of New York/Boston/Chicago/Los Angeles/San Francisco/Portland/Seattle. The average murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by Gore - 13.2. The average murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by Bush - 2.1. The same logic says "Governor Blackout" will bow to the wishes of urban California rather than what is best for the State as a whole. Why else would he cap consumer rates when anyone with basic Econ 101 knows rates have to go up and consumption go down before we can even start to address the long term energy solutions necessary for Ca. Sorry for the long post.
