I like your definition, except for the "authoring" part, which is content production. I would change the word "media" to "data presentation type".

Hm. To effectively manage content, we have to manage the entire process, which includes deciding which tools the author should use to create content. The author is part of the managed process, but the process doesn't do the authoring. I don't know if that agrees or disagrees with what you say. In any event I think I know what you mean, and I'll use your definition.

Distribution from central storage to...the edge of the network...

Then that's content distribution rather than management? Content management addresses the process while distribution addresses the delivery, maybe?

There's some gray line here between the abstract content and the physical bits used to represent that content that I think we're both crossing. Doesn't matter really. It's two different technologies. I think we're on the same page now.

Anyway, I still haven't gotten an answer about stock compensation and cash flow from anyone. I also haven't seen much further discussion about content management software companies (vign, iwov, bvsn, inrs, etc.). Which I find odd, since it seems to be one of the few places IT departments are still funding strongly.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll be happy to discuss this topic by PM, if it seems to be too off topic.

Thanks,
Tom CF
