I have used polls to divine public opinion, regardless of whether or not I agreed with it. I do not even mind using a poll as evidence that a position is reasonable. Using it as a trump card is goofy, though. Why would I care that much about the opinions of those who are poorly informed (most people), except as it is politically relevant?
