- CPQ delivered pleasant news after the close today.

- The world's largest PC maker reported earnings of 0.30 per share - the Street was expecting 0.28 in revised estimates.

- This compared to the same time in '00 when earnings were just 0.19 per share.

- CPQ did warn however that it faces tough market conditions in the first half of this year.

- Art Russell,an analyst with Edward Jones states however that CPQ is well positioned in the marketplace.

- Russell cites CPQ and its diversified products as a hedge against slumping PC sales.

- Capellas is looking for PC growth in 2001 to be in the 3-5% range.

- He expects substantial growth in other areas such as hand held.

- Capellas states growth could be expected in the second half.

- GTW and DELL are announcing they expect a brutal price war in the PC business this year - Capellas points to the fact CPQ is very strong in servers - 90% of revenues comes from this area.

- Capellas refuses to get into a PC price war just to gain share.

- Capellas offers that CPQ has seen its worst quarter ever and was still able to post a positive earnings report.
