i agree with everything you say, except the demonetization part. that sounds to me like you've swallowed the propaganda? you can't demonetize the only form of money that is not someone else's obligation. remember, we have had the current fiat system for only 27 years, gold has been around for 5,000 years. it doesn't get demonetized just because a few central bankers who like nothing more than cranking up their printing press say so.
gold's underperformance these past 20 years is a natural development during the k-wave autumn. it underperforms during times of disinflation, but not when there's inflation or deflation.

there is btw. a study out by Don Ascani that looks at gold's performance during deflation periods since the 16th century. it's not for free, if you're interested you'll have to order it from his web site. anyway, it concludes that gold DOES perform well during deflation periods, contrary to the popular misconceptions about this. however, like i said before, gold STOCKS are the investment vehicle of choice during a deflation, not necessarily bullion.
