RESEARCH ALERT-C-Cube EPS view, target cut

NEW YORK, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse First Boston said analyst Charlie Glavin cut his price target and 2001 earnings per share outlook for C-Cube Microsystems Inc. <CUBE.O> on Wednesday.

In a report, he cut his price target for C-Cube, a chip producer for TV set-top boxes, to $20 from $30.

Glavin trimmed his 2001 profits outlook to 47 from 67 cents a share.

C-Cube has been notified by several large customers "that they were delaying orders due to soft demand and excess inventory levels," he said.

"Although Cube believes the majority of the inventory will burn off by (the first quarter of 2001), these order delays have effectively pushed out Cube's original growth targets by one quarter."

The company on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $8.3 million, or 16 cents a diluted share, on revenues of $74 million. Glavin said the profits-per-share figure was 1 cent ahead of his and analysts' consensus estimate.

The company's shares were off $1-5/16 at 10-3/4.
