Speaking of dead AMD chips, I saw my first one yesterday. It was a Duron 700 which had been assembled with an improper heatsink, which didn't sit on the little pads on the corners of the chip.

I think AMD could improve the durability of the cores somewhat, but most reports I've seen of dead chips are due to people not following directions (also known as the "Palm Beach voter effect").
