Add Canada to that list too.. generally.. Canadians approve of their government run social services, and plans for the downtrodden.. tho a lot of them would like the systems to be a bit more efficient.. as long s the system is working.. most dont mind paying slightly higher taxes to help support it.. the European political culture got transplanted over here.. both from the loyalty to the English crown as well as the French_Canadiens from France...

America is a great country.. and a world leader.. and it influences a lot fo what we do here.. but.. that part of the system and attitude most Canadians would rather stay south of the border.. and I dont see that changing.

I believe also that Canadians as a whole are very concerned about environmental issues.. having put up with acid rain pollution for many yrs and having to listen to US Interior Cabinet Ministers telling us that cows and our trees caused it.. I believe you'll see quite a howl from here if they try this ALaska drilling stunt.. and the Galapogos oil spill in the last week will raise that spectre for us up here about "what if" it happenned in the arctic?

Scumbria,

In western Europe, people generally feel secure within their society.... In the US most people are on their own.

If this were true, how do you explain high savings rate in Europe, and low savings rate in the US?
