Because 50 plus percent of the people in this country are women. And if 50 plus percent of the people in the country can't expect to have their rights enforced they might take it out on their representatives. That's not even adding in the folks of color and sexual orientation that Mr Ashcroft will not represent. That, imo, is why he is different. The death penalty is not as big an issue, and does not affect as many people, as abortion and civil rights. Those are probably two of the biggest issues in the country today, and probably two of the most important areas of law. To have a man "enforcing" the law who does not believe in the law is just silly.
