KLA-Tencor Pledges Assistance to Earthquake Victims in India
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to aid victims of the devastating earthquake that struck India last week, KLA-Tencor (Nasdaq: KLAC - news) announced today that it has established a relief fund through the American Red Cross in the form of a $50,000 challenge grant. The company's goal is to raise a total of $100,000 by matching employee contributions from its global operations dollar for dollar. The donations will be distributed by the Red Cross to aid victims in need of food, shelter and medical supplies.

According to KLA-Tencor Chairman Ken Levy, the tragic loss of life and widespread damage caused by the earthquake have touched many within the company. ``In addition to our partners in the region that have undoubtedly been affected by this disaster, many of our employees have friends or family in India. Although no amount of aid can undo the damage that has been done, we hope that this fund will help alleviate some of the suffering caused by the earthquake and speed the recovery efforts.'' Levy added that he hopes other companies respond in a similar manner to provide much needed assistance to the earthquake victims.

KLA-Tencor has hundreds of employees with roots in India. ``KLA-Tencor is a very diverse organization, and disasters across the globe are immediately felt close to home. Our heart goes out to those employees whose families and friends have been affected by this overwhelming disaster. We sincerely hope all employees will rise to the challenge so that we can maximize our contribution to the relief effort,'' Levy concluded.
