You would all be wise to take any poll with a grain of salt unless you have seen the questions asked and have data concerning the sample size and the steps to assume acurate stratification of that sample. Be particularly attentive to whether the sample is of likely voters, of registered voters or of the public in general. Also note the sponsor of the poll as sometimes polls are commissioned with the intent of producing a particular result. George Gallup was the first to explain why, when a poll asks the public whether they voted in the last election or not, the result always produces an answer greatly in excess of the number who actually voted.
