hi bob

re, "In MSCONFIG startup tab, I unchecked everything including; Nav DefAlert, Norton eMail Protect, and Norton Auto-Protect"

turning auto-protect off by unchecking it in the startup group only means it won't be enabled on reboot. it doesn't turn it off instantly. if you are not rebooting, auto-protect is still on.

since i have nav within systemworks, we may have different screens, but for me, i open systemworks, click on nav, and it tells me that my system is protected. at the page bottom i see a dialog that has a hyperlink that says "more details". the dialog references turning auto-protect off for software installs, another valid plan. upon clicking the aforementioned hyperlink, i get a system status dialog that says auto-protect is on, and asks if i want to turn it off. click that 'yes' button.

hopefully you'll locate this dialog on your nav. i have nsw2001, so we should be close.

good luck

:)
