What do you mean by "taking your business elsewhere"? I do know that Intel is switching the stock option administrator from Merrill Lynch to Paine Webber. Is that what you meant, or is there more?

Mary, re: Ever since Joe Osha had a breakfast meeting with Andy Bryant when he first took over Tom Kurlaks job at ML, Joe has been trying to drive Intel share prices down and touting Intel's arch enemy (AMD).

Osha took over INTC in March 99 and upgraded INTC to BUY a few months later and had ridiculously high estimates. He downgraded it in Nov 99. At peak, he raised the price target 83% from the downgrade level. I agree that he has a personal agenda against INTC. I feel that it shows in his research comments and I am surprised that ML even allows it.

Your guess (about who is paid more) is correct: Sanders' salary is $1M, while Barrett's salary was $525k. However, I think the bonus was a tad too high (because this sends the wrong message) given the company's operational performance in 1999. With very few exceptions, I almost never criticize Barrett's performance, but I would not suggest a higher compensation. Meanwhile, you criticize his performance, yet you would suggest a higher compensation.
