I think a lot of the problem with inner city schools is the lack of parental involvement, for whatever reason. The parents need to be involved, and need to see that it is essential. This is one major reason for the success of the private and parochial schools.

You must have a good hammer 'cause you smacked the nail on the head. When you have home-schooled kids beating children from both public schools and private schools it pounds home parental involvement.

As a rule inner city kids, as a rule, have a pretty poor home life and IF both parents are around, usually they have little education. Maybe we need parent vouchers.

Before we laud private and parochial schools too much and cite higher test scores, more parental involvement, etc., let's not forget that public schools have to accept every kid, regardless of his or her attitude, IQ or mental/physical disability.

Private and parochial schools don't.

Big difference.
