It sounds like one of the techniques of effectiveness training I used when teaching parents and teens to communicate --
always try to state things without saying YOU made me feel, or YOU were wrong.. concentrate on the effect without accusations attached.
Of course dealing with teens, that is tough. They are very quick to see through anything that sounds manipulative or condescending.
I know I've mentioned how CW and I did a lot of our talking by messaging and e-mail his junior year- he at his computer in his room, I at mine in the study. It was very effective, took the emotion out of what we were saying. I credit his being allowed to live through his 16th year to that solution.
It';s interesting that it doesn;t seem to work here at SI!
Lack of vocal inflections doesn't seem to cool things down.
