TeraGlobal Communications Demonstrates High-Quality Voice,Video, and Data Over DSL

TeraMedia(TM) Software Tested Over BlueStar.net, a Covad Company's DSL Network

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- TeraGlobal Communications Corp. (Nasdaq: TGCC) today announced successful tests and public demonstrations of its TeraMedia networking software over DSL networks. The tests were conducted with BlueStar.net, a subsidiary of Covad Communications, the leading national broadband services provider of high-speed Internet and network access utilizing DSL technology. TeraGlobal's TeraMedia delivered superior performance of real-time interactive video conferencing, Whiteboard(TM) collaboration, and Assessment(TM) over the BlueStar.net DSL network.

"We are pleased to demonstrate TeraMedia's capabilities to deliver business-class voice, video, and data in a collaborative digital environment," said Jocelyn Petteway, regional marketing manager at BlueStar.net. "TeraGlobal Communications has developed high-performance collaboration and video conferencing software which will enable many individuals to participate in a single session over our FireLine DSL technology. TeraGlobal's software has the potential to revolutionize distance learning, distance training and virtual collaboration, and it is a perfect partner to DSL service."

"The ability to deploy TeraGlobal's networking software over DSL technology achieves for TeraGlobal and our partners three important things," said Paul Cox, TeraGlobal President. "One, it lowers the cost of delivering TeraMedia; two, it makes the utility of TeraMedia and other applications on our converged network more widely accessible; and, three, it provides carriers the ability to build real ASP businesses that offer services which differentiate them from their competition. Moreover, our software delivers these value-added services over existing infrastructure. We see this technical success as very significant for our customers and broadband providers like Covad."

DSL Tests

BlueStar.net, a Covad company, offers three DSL services nationally: FireLine DSL service, which delivers up to 1.5 Mbps access to the Internet, FireLine RPN (Real Private Network) DSL service, and FireLine H2O, which connects a home office to a corporate LAN at up to 768 Kbps. A FireLine RPN DSL connection establishes up to a 1.5 Mbps Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC) through the nationwide Covad/BlueStar.net network.

The TeraGlobal and BlueStar.net engineering team tested TeraMedia over the FireLine DSL service, a "best effort" service level at a data rate of 768 Kbps, routed over a private network. The BlueStar.net engineers were not required to make any modifications to their existing DSL service offering to deliver TeraMedia. To establish a two-way live communication session between Columbia, SC and Greenville, SC the data traveled through the Central Offices of 6 cities (Columbia, Savannah, Orlando, Jacksonville, Nashville and Greenville). TeraMedia was also tested over the FireLine RPN DSL service which establishes a PVC over a private network. For the FireLine RPN DSL test of TeraMedia, the BlueStar.net engineers established a connection between Columbia and Greenville through a Charlotte, NC Central Office. Tests were run at data rates of 768 Kbps and 1.5 Mbps.

"TeraMedia's performance in these tests demonstrates the flexibility of our software-only approach," said Grant Holcomb, CTO of TeraGlobal. "We were able to demonstrate TeraMedia's superior image quality and low latency at a variety of data rates, and in a variety of service offerings. One of our principal technological goals for 2001 was to expand our network access methodologies. These tests are a significant step to deployment over DSL."

DSL Public Demonstration

A public demonstration of TeraMedia over DSL was featured at the Columbia, S.C. Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours" event hosted by BlueStar.net on January 18. Over 200 representatives for schools, businesses, and government organizations from the Columbia area participated in the event which included a live TeraMedia session of video conferencing, Whiteboard collaboration, instant Assessment, and multimedia presentation between multiple TeraMedia sites over the DSL network.

"We are extremely grateful to BlueStar.net for the opportunity to work with them on this demonstration," said Bob Welty, Vice President of Sales who represented TeraGlobal at the event. "The wide deployment of DSL over the past several years has created a large and growing broadband market. TeraMedia software takes advantage of that broadband to deliver a new class of communications and collaboration solutions. We look forward to working with broadband providers like BlueStar.net to capitalize on these market opportunities."

Call me crazy, but I bought MORE COVD just now! I figure my downside is $1.50 but something is brewing, and the setiment is slowly turning. You got to be in it to win it! I'm playing a hunch here that this higher volume may be leading to something.

Loaded up on cheap VZ today. A real growth value king. Don't pay any attention to the surrent BS lawsuits and look beyond. The #1 wireless company in the US selling for peanuts. And their big IPO is going to kick major ass soon. Great safe stock to retire on. And I still believe it wilol hit 100 later in the year. Look at the teensy PE. Should be more than double that. GTE and BEL were twice that apart now together they're half that. Because of the strike, remember? But just wait.
