Albert,

Makes perfect sense to me (NOT!). They have a buy rating, but they would not buy at this level.

A new 0.13-micron based Pentium-3 isn't slated to

I believe he's way late on that one (I mean Oct. 2001 is way late).

<With Intel's scheduled price cuts anticipated this weekend, we expect to see
fairly aggressive reductions across the board for Celeron, P3, and P4
processors-for both desktop and mobile processors. We believe there are
several reasons for such sharp cuts:

To help flush excess channel inventory;

To motivate end-user purchases (in absence of new CPUs and software as drivers);

To migrate Pentium-3 demand to the Pentium-4;

To increase more laptop sales; and

To react to/initiate competitive pricing with AMD.

Cuts of 20-40% Across the Board>

It is a shame this analyst ignores what is probably the biggest reason for the price cuts: AMD is finally (!) sampling Palamino Desktop/Laptop parts along with 760MP.

Throughout last year Intel almost never cut laptop and server prices unless a new part was introduced. AMD is finally showing competitive products in all products except the large cache and greater than 2-way Xeon market. Intel is dropping the prices in a bid to retain market share.

The days of Intel doing price cuts only on the desktop side may have come to an end (at least for the next 12-18 months).
