Not only the launch of Kylix, they mentioned they would be announcing JBuilder support for the #2 Application Server. While they didn't name names, it is obvious to me that its IBM. Expect this deal to increase JBuilder sales yet again this quarter.

From the CC I also got the impression that Borland will be increasing its service division through internal hiring, partnerships and possibly an acquisition. Any acquisitions will probably be small, as Dale is very conservative with regards to spending Borland's cash (I still think this is a good plan).

Borland is targeting a very specific niche in the Enterprise market, telecom and banking, which is estimated to be about 39% of the total market. If Borland can achieve just a 20% market share of that 39% market and the $5.5 billion estimate for the total market size in 2003 is good, then Borland could see annual revenues of of $429 million from enterprise revenues alone.

Some more interesting information that came out of the conference call was a clear plan for the future. The future of Borland will be all about streamlining software development from concept, to architecture and design, to development/debugging and finally deployment. Supporting all levels of the "lifecylce of software development" is where Borland is heading. That's the first time I've heard a clear initiative from Borland management in a long time. The plan is in place, the balance sheet is VERY healthy, the foundation of products is there and the market is getting hungry.
